1,000 kilometers off the coast of Ecuador, in the Pacific Ocean, lie the Galapagos Islands.
San Cristóbal is the easternmost and probably the oldest in the archipelago. With calm waters, numerous sea lions resting on the sandy beach and fabulous sunsets on the horizon, life here seems perfect. The island, formed from volcanic eruptions, is not only insanely beautiful, it also gives the inhabitants a great gift - its incredible fertility. Volcanic soil is extremely rich in nutrients and thus provides the ideal basis for growing plants.

Due to the cold Antarctic Humboldt Current, the climate is temperate oceanic, bringing tropical rain to the southern slopes of the island between January and May. The ecosystem has remained perfectly intact, partly due to the protection of the inhabitants. This makes any use of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers unnecessary. Only organic substances that occur naturally are used for fertilizing. All this allows the production of excellent coffee.

The Mokaflor San Cristobal is grown there at the Hacienda El Cafetal.
Coffee has been cultivated at the Hacienda since 1875. Founder Don Manuel Cobos imported young Arabica plants of the Bourbon type from Ethiopia and planted his 247-hectare plantation with them. Amazingly, the coffee today is made from the same plants that were originally planted in 1875. Perhaps one of the secrets to Don Manuel's unique beans. This coffee grows in the shade of the hacienda's forest trees and thus matures longer than conventionally grown coffee. This gives the flavors in the bean much more time to develop and reach their full potential. A coffee as unique as the Galapagos Islands themselves.

 

Taste and aroma
In terms of taste, the Galapagos San Cristobal is a real stunner. Incredibly aromatic and fruity. The crema is light and hazelnut colored with slightly reddish nuances. Freshly ground, fine scents of mango, peach and candied apricot rise to your nose.

You are immediately transported to the country of origin of the bean. You can taste the fruity note, but it is also joined by slightly spicy nuances of nuts and dark chocolate.

A perfectly rounded espresso. You should first try the San Cristobal neat and then perhaps mix it with your favorite coffee so far. This way you can experiment a little and create completely new and undiscovered pleasure experiences.
